When YOU Are NOT What You Were- Who Are You ?

Almost hard to write the title of this post, was going to write ' Getting Old and Not Liking It', or some such wording. I am just dealing with all sorts of issues, issues that affect me working in my garden, my exercise routine, even long antique hunts ( which I was at the end of last week when I had this picture taken above), etc. When our health and vitality is not the same, when our energy level has changed, when everyone around us is young and hoppin' and poppin' ( American slang for being active and happy). When we are unable to keep up with our younger, more familiar version of ourselves, who happens to be us but older.
I mean, if you can't keep pace with who you were...then who the heck are you !?
When you look in the mirror and you look so different . The clock is ticking, what you see in the mirror today, will be different 10 years from now, and the image 25 years earlier, is what we all hope to see.
Feel free to comment, advice is welcome, insights encouraged.
I do know that all of us, will never be younger than we are right at this moment. We need to realize and enjoy THIS time.
Knowing and believing , and acting on those beliefs, are two different things entirely.
take good care all of you,
Gina

  2. I'm often surprised at myself when I really look in the mirror. I've never spent a ton of time on makeup and hair so I don't really study myself. In my mind I feel like I'm in my early 20's, but physically I don't. Having to go to certain types of specialists and seeing "old" people makes me feel even more that I'm getting old. I worked for a long time in nursing homes and with older people and really learned from them that age is just a number, that it's really in your mind. There were people in their 60's that seemed older than people in their 80's.

  3. I've given myself a day to think about a "wise" answer to this. (Actually it's a question I've asked myself frequently - just didn't realize I was asking it!) I haven't come up with anything "profound." You came up with a great line when you said "enjoy THIS time"! Dwelling on one's age minimizes the ability to do this, I think...

It's nice to have you back & active. I've missed you, Gina.

And re. bananas, blueberries and apples, those are pretty much staples here, too. Well, blueberries when in season. Then I like to supplement them with others such as the pears and grapefruit I'm currently enjoying...

  5. Dear Gina ~ I feel exactly like you...I am 54 years...old...young? I don't know. Cancer survivor, only child, "orphan", now, both my parents have passed in the last 2 years. Mom to 4 beautiful children (the youngest is a junior in high school this year), Grandmother ~ "Mimi" to two sweet boys, 17 and 13. Artist?...maybe. I was ~ can't seem to make myself paint anymore, True, not getting any younger. BTW ~ Delightful blog! I'm a new follower!
    Best,

  6. I've been dwelling on my age far too much of late, and NOT in a positive way. I keep thinking that one day I will be struck by an epiphany and suddenly all this wisdom about aging will be revealed to me. So far, nothing. I look in the mirror and see this aging face, no way!.. is that me?? YIKES! I feel young in my mind, but my aching body is telling me different. So the trick is, to find a way to "age gracefully", to let go of that young image of ourselves and embrace the older more mature self. I am working on it...

  7. Dear Gina ~ Some days are easier to 'age gracefully' and others are not so easy. I will be 63 next month and while my mind has a hard time grasping the idea and doesn't feel that number, my body tells me differently. I try not to dwell on my age, but it does creep up on us. I just try to take things as they come, one day at a time, and thank Jesus for His many blessings. We don't know what each day holds, but He holds us each and every precious second of our days. Our hope is in Him.

    I'll email you later.

Hope you have a lovely weekend and a sweet Valentine's day.

    Love and hugs ~ FlowerLady

  9. My mothers comment; "Getting old isn't for sissies." My refrain: "The alternative is less appealing."

    Best wishes, Gina!
